SKILL TESTING
Children under 12 years old or below sixh grade must pass the following tests to use the deep sections of our pools:
ORANGE BAND – For access to the slide and long area of the L-Pool up to the 5-foot line: Must swim 2 widths of the pool without stopping except to turn nor touching the bottom (30 total yards, typically starting at the slide and swimming to the other side of the pool and back). Either free style with arms coming out of the water or breast stroke are acceptable strokes for this test.
A child who does not have an orange bracelet may swim with an adult in the orange bracelet section of the pool including using the slide. This does not include access to the diving well or diving board. A green bracelet is required to use the diving well and/or diving boards. This activity may be suspended at the discretion of the manager on duty. Please, only one adult to one non-band swimming child.
GREEN BAND – For full access to all pools and diving area: Must swim continuous freestyle from the start of the test to the other side of the pool and then back (could be full lap in lap pool or from one point in the L-Pool to another), then tread water for 60 seconds. The stroke quality does not have to be perfect but must be assessed as safe. For example, this means that the arms must come out of the water during freestyle and the stroke should be strong enough to ensure the child’s safe swim to the side.
If you received a green band in a previous season, you do NOT need to retake the test. Please check in at the office and they can look in our system and give you your band.
NOTE: Any Member may be required to demonstrate minimum acceptable swimming skills prior to using certain portions of the pool reguardletss of age. This is to ensure your safety and is at the discretion of the SSC Managers.
